BUFFALO, N.Y. — Defenceman Charlie Morrison, a member of the Metalfab MHL Cup champion Miramichi Timberwolves in 2024, has been drafted by the New York Rangers. The Miramichi, N.B. native was selected in the 3rd Round, 77th overall, in the NHL Draft on Saturday.
Morrison was a Territorial Draft pick of the Timberwolves in the 2023 MHL Entry Draft, selected 31st overall. He spent the bulk of the 2023-24 season with the Champions Hockey Academy U17 program, but played five games for the Timberwolves in the regular season. Morrison had one assist in those five games, which he tallied in his first-ever MHL game on December 16th at home against Campbellton. He played in eight of Miramichi’s fifteen playoff games, including all six in the final against Summerside, and had two assists.
At the Centennial Cup in Oakville, Ontario, Morrison had three assists in six games as the Timberwolves lost in the semifinal to eventual national champion Collingwood.
Morrison, a physical two-way defenceman, has spent the past two seasons in the QMJHL with the Québec Remparts, with six goals and 22 assists in 104 games, on top of two goals and three assists in 14 playoff games.
