CALGARY, Alta. – The Canadian Junior Hockey League, in partnership with the National Hockey League and Hockey Canada, announced Monday the names of the two head coaches for the upcoming CJHL Prospects Game, which goes Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. MT at Pason Centennial Arena in Okotoks, Alta.
Selected to guide Team West is Tyler Deis, the head coach and general manager of the Okotoks Oilers (AJHL) while serving as bench boss for Team East will be Daniel Sauve, the head coach and GM of the Rockland Nationals (CCHL).
Deis, last season’s AJHL and CJHL Coach of the Year, is in his sixth campaign with the Oilers organization and third in the role of Coach, GM and director of hockey development.
In his tenure as head coach in Okotoks, he has seen his Oilers side post an impressive 117-38-9 overall record in 164 outings.
After playing his junior hockey in the SJHL, Deis attended Minnesota State University – Mankato where he played NCAA D-I hockey with the Mavericks for four years.
As for Sauve, he too is an alumnus of the CJHL, having skated in the CCHL in his Jr. A days and has now served as coach and GM of the Nationals since the 2016-17 campaign. He was also an assistant coach for the bronze medal-winning CCHL select squad that represented the CJHL at the 2018 Jr. Club World Cup in Socchi, Russia this past August.
So far in 2018-19, Sauve has helped lead Rockland to a 27-10-2-1 record and sit in second spot in the CCHL’s Yzerman Division standings with their 57 points tying them for second overall in the 12-team league.
The assistant coaches and support staffs for both teams will be released Tuesday.
