OTTAWA, Ont. – The Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) Board of Governors is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Marcellus as interim commissioner.
“Sean has been a dedicated member of the CCHL Management Team for nearly a decade in the areas of Hockey Operations and Communications among a multitude of other responsibilities” said CCHL Chairman Steve Barban. “His knowledge of the nuances of the league and the member teams and operators made this an easy decision that all teams were united in supporting.”
In addtion to his CCHL role, Sean has been the President of the HEO U18 AAA League (1 year) and the director of hockey pperations for seven seasons. Marcellus, an Arnprior, Ont., native is a graduate of Durham College in Oshawa, Ont., where he studied Sports Management.
“There is no more qualified candidate than Sean to assume day-to-day operations of the CCHL” said outgoing Commissioner Kevin Abrams. “His knowledge of league policies and regulations as well as those of the governing bodies is exceptional and his passion and commitment are unparalleled.”
“It is an honour to be given an opportunity to serve our 12-member clubs as Commissioner”, said Marcellus. “I am well aware of the work and responsibility that comes with a position like this but I am incredibly excited to get started. Being with the league for over eight years already has helped prepare me to take this next step. I want to thank our Board of Governors for coming to me with this opportunity and having confidence in me to represent such a storied hockey league. I also want to give a special thank you to outgoing Commissioner and friend Kevin Abrams for bringing me into the fold back in 2015 and for helping mentor me along the way.”
In his first duty as Commissioner, Sean is representing the league at the Centennial Cup Junior A National Championships in Portage la Prairie, Man., and will assume full control on June 1, 2023.
