MELVILLE, Sask. — The Melville Millionaires of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League invite applications for the full-time position of head coach/general manager.
The position will perform all duties normally associated with the job of a Head Coach and General Manager of a junior hockey team including, but not limited to, working with the assistant general manager, trainer and assistant coach to initiate and prepare a season plan, scheduling and conducting tryouts, practices, meetings and other training, maintaining team and individual discipline, recruiting players and promoting the team in the community.
Responsibilities:
Recruit and select a full roster of quality junior calibre players
Conduct all on-ice camps, practices, games and daily dry-land
Develop game and practice plans including offensive and defensive systems as well as special teams play
Serve as a representative consistent with the values and standards of the of the Melville Millionaires organization and the SJHL when conducting meetings with parents, families, social clubs, and media
Assist in enforcement of player rules, regulations and team policies including disciplinary standards and supervise and manage the conduct of players both on and off the ice
Supervise an off-ice conditioning program
Study game film and conduct regular team meetings to break down game film
Develop and maintain collaborative, supportive, and professional relationships with area and league teams; help further establish and maintain a professional reputation among all external agencies (league staff, opposing teams, visiting and host hotels, referee group, sponsors, minor partners, opposing team fans and support staff, etc.)
Assist in development of individual and team athletic skills and foster personal growth and development of all team members
Hold team training camps
Must possess good time management skills and is able to multitask, while providing structure
Must be willing and able to perform Community Outreach and Public Relations appearances
Perform additional duties as directed by the Melville Millionaires Board of Directors
Qualifications:
Recruiting sources of junior calibre players
A strong reputation for coaching ability and integrity among players, coaches, and parents
Strong mentorship, leadership, disciplinary skills and conflict management
Demonstrated ability to develop players in preparation for play at higher levels
Demonstrated success as a coach/assistant coach
Junior, Collegiate, or Professional playing experience preferred
Sound knowledge of game theory and concepts including systems and special teams play
Posses the coaching qualifications to coach at a Jr. A level (example: HP1)
