Guest coaches named for CJHL Prospects Game

CALGARY, Alta. – The Canadian Junior Hockey League, in conjunction with the National Hockey League and Hockey Canada, announced Tuesday the names of the two guest coaches for next week’s CJHL Prospects Game, which runs Tuesday, January 22 at 7:30 p.m. MT at Pason Centennial Arena in Okotoks, Alta.

Named to work alongside the Team West staff will be former NHLer Curtis Glencross while long-time hockey executive Al Coates will be behind the Team East bench as their guest coach.

An alumnus of the CJHL, Glencross played two seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with the Brooks Bandits before earning a NCAA Division I scholarship at the University of Alaska-Anchorage (WCHA).

From there he went on to play nine years in the NHL at centre, including seven seasons with the Calgary Flames.

In 507 career NHL contests, Glencross scored 134 times and added 141 assists for 275 points.

As for Coates, he is certainly no stranger to the game, having served in multiple capacities over the course of his storied career, including that as general manager of the Calgary Flames from 1995 through 2000.

He was also on the Flames staff that won the Stanley Cup in 1989 as part of his 30-plus-year involvement in the NHL as well as with Hockey Canada.
