TRURO, N.S. – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) wishes to formally announce the transfer of the Fredericton Red Wings franchise to the City of Bathurst. The transfer will take effect starting in the 2025-26 season.
“The Maritime Junior Hockey League would like to thank fans of the Red Wings, their many volunteers, and the City of Fredericton for their support over the past six seasons,” says interim MHL President Kevin Mitchell. “We look forward to building new relationships with the City of Bathurst and their new fans in the Chaleur region.”
The franchise began as the St. Stephen County Aces during the 2014-15 season and moved to Fredericton, N.B. in time for the 2019-20 season, renamed the Red Wings. During the team’s time in Fredericton, the team made the playoffs four times and advanced to the Eastlink North Division Final twice.
“On behalf of the City of Bathurst, we are thrilled to welcome the Maritime Hockey League and Global Center Ice for the upcoming hockey season as the new anchor hockey tenant for the K.C. Irving Regional Centre,” says Director of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Ryan Wilbur. “Bathurst and the Chaleur region have a deeply rooted hockey history, and we are greatly looking forward to ushering in this next era.”
