Cobourg Cougars’ (OJHL) Hoskin collects CJHL’s Top NHL Prospect Award

LAS VEGAS, Nev. –
Trevor Hoskin, the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Most Valuable Player & Top Forward award recipient for the 2023-24 season, added an additional honour Saturday, by capturing CJHL Top NHL Prospect laurels.

The Cobourg Cougars (OJHL) standout garnered the accolades by being the highest CJHL player selected in the 2024 NHL Draft that took place at the Sphere in Las Vegas.

Hoskin was tabbed by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round, 106th overall, in Day 2 proceedings of the Draft.

The 20-year-old Belleville, Ont., product collected 100 points, in 52 games, this past campaign in Cobourg, with 42 goals and 58 assists.

He also competed with Team Canada East at the 2023 World Junior A Hockey Challenge in Nova Scotia where he went on to be named to the all-tournament team and helped lead his side to a silver medal.

Hoskin previously committed to NCAA Division I Niagara University (Atlantic Hockey America), following a MVP performance at the Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge in Trenton, Ont.

Day 2 of the Draft also saw one other CJHLer taken by a NHL club.

That was centre Jonathan Morello of the St. Michael’s Buzzers (OJHL).

Morello was chosen in the fifth round, 154th overall, by the Boston Bruins.

The 17-year-old Morello, who is a NCAA D-I commit to Clarkson University (ECAC), averaged over a point-per-game with the Buzzers in 2023-24, setting personal single-season bests in goals (25), assists (32) and points (57).
