CJHL names its Gongshow Gear 3 Stars for January

CALGARY, Alta. – The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that forward T.J. Shea (Summerside Western Capitals, MHL); goaltender Connor Hicks (Ottawa Jr. A Senators, CCHL) and forward Alex Newhook (Victoria Grizzlies, BCHL) have been named its Gongshow Gear 3 Stars of the Month for January.

1ST STAR: T.J. SHEA, (F) SUMMERSIDE WESTERN CAPITALS (MHL) – In 10 games last month, the 19-year-old from Tignish, P.E.I. put on an offensive clinic by scoring eight times and adding 20 assists for the Western Capitals. … Not only did Shea record a point in each of his team’s contests in January, it was part of an impressive 33-game point streak he registered from Oct. 7 through Feb. 2. … He registered multiple points in all but two of those 33 contests. … Shea currently tops all MHL skaters in scoring with 97 points while leading his league in goals and assists with 39 and 58 respectively.

2ND STAR: CONNOR HICKS, (G) OTTAWA JR. A SENATORS (CCHL) – January was a stellar one for the 2018 Fred Page Cup-host Jr. A Senators’ goalkeeper. … The veteran netminder, who is in his last year of Jr. A play, went an impressive 8-0-1 for Ottawa while registering a stingy 1.65 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage along with a pair of shutouts. … The Kanata, Ont., product is currently 17-1-0-2 to date with the Jr. A Senators and sports a 1.81 average, a .938 save mark and five shutouts. … Hicks will attend Dalhousie University and play U-Sports hockey in the AUS in the fall.

3RD STAR: ALEX NEWHOOK, (F) VICTORIA GRIZZLIES (BCHL) – In a dozen outings last month for Victoria, the 17-year-old forward, who hails from St. John’s, N.L., recorded seven goals and chipped in with 14 assists for 21 points. … Newhook boasted multiple points in seven of the contests, including a four-point effort. … Currently pacing all BCHL rookies in offensive production, Newhook also sits fourth among all players in the league with 66 points in just 45 games, having tallied 22 times while helping set-up 44 others. … He is also committed to play NCAA hockey on scholarship where he will attend Boston College (Hockey East) starting in the 2019-20 campaign.
