CJHL names its Gongshow Gear 3 Stars for December

McDougall (SJHL); Jankowski (CCHL); Thiessen (MJHL) earn monthly honours

CALGARY, Alta. – The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that defenceman Josh McDougall (Nipawin Hawks, SJHL); forward David Jankowski (Hawkesbury Hawks, CCHL) and goaltender Matt Thiessen (Steinbach Pistons, MJHL) have been named its Gongshow Gear 3 Stars of the Month for December.

1ST STAR: JOSH MCDOUGALL, (D) NIPAWIN HAWKS (SJHL) – A 17-point run last month helped the Nipawin defenceman garner CJHL 1st Star accolades. … The 19-year-old Prince Albert, Sask., product racked up four goals and 13 assists in December, which included four outings of three points or more. … The Mercyhurst University commitment currently paces his team and all SJHL D-men in offensive production with 50 points in 38 contests on 11 tallies and 39 helpers. … He’s also fifth overall in league scoring among all skaters.

2ND STAR: DAVID JANKOWSKI, (F) HAWKESBURY HAWKS (CCHL) – Suiting up in nine games last month, the 20-year-old from Waterloo, Ont., etched his name on the scoresheet in all of them amassing a dozen markers along with seven helpers for 19 points while serving as captain of the Hawkesbury Hawks. … Jankowski’s efforts also earned him CCHL Player of the Month honours for the second straight time.  The 20-year-old St. Lawrence University NCAA D-I commit presently leads the CCHL in scoring with 62 points, having notched 28 goals and set-up 34 others through 40 games.

3RD STAR: MATT THIESSEN, (G) STEINBACH PISTONS (MJHL) – The Steinbach Pistons goaltender was unbeatable in December going a perfect 7-0-0 for his MJHL-leading side. … Still just 17, the Altona, Man., native posted a stingy 1.69 goals-against average in the time frame along with a solid .934 save percentage and one shutout. … The rookie netminder leads the MJHL in average at 2.05 as does his .924 save mark while posting a 19-3-0 overall record. … Earning his league’s Goaltender of the Month award as well, Thiessen recently committed to attend the University of Maine where he will play for the Black Bears.
