Centennial Cup award winners announced

ESTEVAN, Sask. — Hockey Canada announced Thursday, the names of the five 2022 Centennial Cup, presented by Tim Hortons, award recipients, who were recognized for their contributions during the course of preliminary round competition.

Carson Cherepak
Dauphin Kings (MJHL)

The 19-year-old goaltender, Cherepak received the Ed Belfour Top Goaltender Award in 2021-22 for his outstanding play in the Kings crease during the MJHL regular season. … Cherepak’s 30-7-0 record led all goaltenders in wins, 2nd in goals against average (2.21) and 2nd in save percentage (.921). He also finished the regular season tied for 1st in shutouts (6) and 2nd in Minutes Played (2,195). … Cherepak was voted as an MJHL First Team All-Star.

McAllister, the AJHL scoring champion was also named the 2021-22 AJHL MVP and was the recipient of the Alberta Old Time Hockey Players trophy. … With 139 points (57G, 82A), the Western Michigan University commit is the first AJHL player to score over 130 points in a season since the 1997-98 season. … McAllister (London, Ont.) broke the Bandits franchise record for most points in a season and is just the second Bandit to score 50 goals in a season. He averaged 2.3 points-per-game, recorded 42 multi-point games and completed the season with a 12-game point streak. … The third-year Bandit was named as the 2021-22 Team MVP and Top Scorer. McAllister, 20, was selected as the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Player of the Month twice, the CJHL 1st Star of the Month in October 2021. … Received the Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week award four times, and was the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game 10 times.

The commit to NCAA Division I Rochester Institute of Technology dominated the SJHL from the start of this year, ending up with 19 goals and 50 points – both the best in the league among defencemen – while playing in all 58 games on the Bombers’ back end. … A 2002-born native of Quebec City, Que., Lapointe joined the Bombers ahead of the season and was a key reason why Flin Flon held the best goal differential in the Sherwood Division in 2021-22 at plus-48. … The fleet-footed two-way defender looks to attend R.I.T. next season.
