Carter Savoie, Sherwood Park Crusaders (AJHL) CJHL’s Top Rookie for 2018-19

CALGARY, Alta. The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that forward Carter Savoie of the Sherwood Park Crusaders (AJHL) has been named the recipient of its Top Rookie Award for the 2018-19 season.

The 17-year-old St. Alberta, Alta., product garnered the accolades over fellow CJHL Top Rookie finalists Alexander Campbell (F), Victoria Grizzlies (BCHL); Owen Murray (D), Portage Terriers (MJHL); Mitchell Weeks (G), Newmarket Hurricanes (OJHL) and Bryce Young (F), Red Lake Miners (SIJHL) following a voting and balloting process completed by each of the 10 leagues that comprise the CJHL.

In his initial year of Jr. A hockey, Savoie led Sherwood Park in offensive production with 73 points on 31 goals and 42 points with his numbers pacing all league rookies, while finishing fifth overall in AJHL scoring.

His seven game-winning markers topped all first-year skaters in the AJHL, which tied him for fifth-best in that category among all players while also earning his league’s Rookie of the Year Award.

Savoie too earned eight AJHL Star of the Game selections during the course of the campaign, picked up a pair of league Player of the Week honours and was one of four 2002-born players invited to take part in the Team Canada West Selection Camp for the 2018 World Junior A Challenge.

He previously committed to the attend the University of Denver on NCAA Division I scholarship for the 2021-22 season where Savoie will compete for the Pioneers men’s program who are members of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.
