CORNWALL, Ont. – A Ryland Mosley (Carleton Place Canadians, CCHL) goal coming with just over two minutes remaining proved to be the game-winner as Team Red went on to edge Team White 3-2 Wednesday evening in opening day inter-squad game action at the Canada East Selection Camp at Benson Centre.
Playing two, 25-minute periods, neither side would connect offensively in a scoreless opening stanza.
The final frame saw Connor McCluskey (South Shore Lumberjacks, MHL) put Red in front quickly with a shorthanded effort 41 seconds into the session.
White countered quickly however to knot the affair at 1-1 as Michael Pallandra (Brantford 99ers, OJHL) netted the equalizer a half minute later.
Regaining the lead at 12:02, Finn Brown (St. Michael’s Buzzers, OJHL) put Team Red back in front with help from Buzzers’ teammate Ayrton Martino.
Mosley then notched the eventual difference maker in the late going on a tally that was needed as Pallandra rounded out the scoring for Team White with 100 seconds left on the clock.
Red also held the edge in shots on goal by a 33-30 margin with Devon Levi (Carleton Place Canadians, CCHL) making nine stops in the second period to collect the win while Tristan Gray (Campbellton Tigers, MHL) turned aside all 19 shots fired his way while manning the Red net in the first frame.
Sebastian Lebora (St. Michael’s Buzzers, OJHL) was spotless handling all 14 attempts he faced for Team White in the initial session while Cyrus Martin (Rockland Nationals, CCHL) suffered the setback while allowing three goals against on 19 shots.
The camp held in conjunction with Hockey Canada and NHL Central Scouting, features prospects from the five eastern-based leagues within the Canadian Junior Hockey League, is part of the process to help formulate the Canada East roster that will compete in the 2019 World Junior A Challenge, December 7-15, in Dawson Creek, B.C.
A total of 44 players are attending the three-day event.
Two more inter-squad games are on tap Thursday at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. back in Cornwall before the wrap things up Friday in another 9 a.m. start.
