SPHL featured 103 CJHL alumni taking part this past season

TORONTO –
Game action in the Southern Professional Hockey League during the 2024-25 campaign featured 103 Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) alumni who suited up for its 10 member clubs.

Each of the 10 SPHL sides featured at least six CJHL alums on their respective clubs.

Among them, netminder Colby Muise (Bonnyville Pontiacs/AJHL & North York Rangers/OJHL) was named the SPHL’s Top Goaltender and a 1st Team All-Star.

Muise went 23-3-4 for the Peoria Rivermen and set a new SPHL record by posting a 1.68 goals-against average and tied the league-mark for shutouts in a season with eight. He also topped goalkeepers with a .933 save percentage.

Offensively, Nick Ford (Ottawa Jr. Senators/CCHL & Cumberland Grads/CCHL) paced the SPHL in scoring with 72 points in 55 outings with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs.

Behind Ford was Leif Mattson (Drumheller Dragon/AJHL), who had 68 points in as many contests with the Quad City Storm.

You also had former Cobourg Cougars (OJHL) and Whitby Fury (OJHL) forward Carson Gallagher being named the league’s Rookie of the Year for his efforts with Roanoke.

Another CJHL alum, Jean-Guy Trudel (Rouyn-Noranda Capitales/NOJHL) was tabbed as the Coach of the Year for his work behind the bench with Peoria.

Meanwhile, the SPHL’s President’s Cup champion Evansville Thunderbolts featured 17 former CJHLers in their line-up at numerous points during the season.
