TORONTO – The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that forward Riley Patterson of the North York Rangers (OJHL) has been named its Top Rookie Award recipient for the 2022-23 campaign.
In collecting the accolades, the 17-year-old Burlington, Ont., product earned the honour over fellow Top Rookie finalists Hudson Malinoski, (F) Brooks Bandits (AJHL); Luke Posthumous, (F) Nepean Raiders (CCHL); Carter Cormier, (F) Selkirk Steelers (MJHL) and Riley Ashe, (F) Melfort Mustangs (SJHL), following a voting process completed by the CJHL’s nine-member leagues, for their respective efforts during the course of the regular season.
Leading North York in offensive production on the year, Patterson scored 30 times and dished out 43 assists for 73 points in 52 Ontario Junior Hockey League contests.
Among his tally count were four game-winning markers while another five came while his club was shorthanded.
He was also tabbed the OJHL’s South-East Conference Player of the Month for November.
The youngest player on a youthful Rangers’ roster is an early prospect for the 2024 NHL Draft.
Earlier this season Patterson committed to attend Michigan State University in Lansing, Mich., on NCAA Division I scholarship in 2024, where he will attend school and skate for the Spartans men’s hockey program.
