Matt Moore named Maritime Junior Hockey League Commissioner

TRURO, N.S. – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) Board of Governors are announcing the appointment of Matt Moore as Commissioner.

A resident of Valley, Nova Scotia, Moore’s career in sport and entertainment has spanned over 20 years. It has been defined by his pride, passion, and commitment to promoting the Maritime region as a premier destination for major events. His career highlights include recently securing the rights to host the 2025 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Truro later this fall and previously bringing the World Junior A Challenge to Truro in 2017 and 2023. Moore also secured the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association “Secret Dream Gap Tour” in 2021 and 2022 in Truro, which represented the first professional women’s hockey series ever played in Nova Scotia. His leadership also contributed to the attraction of the 2020 IIHF Women’s World Hockey Championship to Halifax-Truro, which was cancelled due to the pandemic.

“The Board of Governors are very pleased to be adding a person with the experience of Matt Moore to serve as MHL Commissioner,” says MHL Board of Governors Chair Graham Baxter. “He has a proven track record within the sport and entertainment industries and brings a level of passion and leadership that will help grow the MHL around the region.”

An active volunteer, Moore has participated in a variety of organizations and boards including as Chairman for the Event Atlantic Society and a Board Member with Sport Tourism Canada. His ability to bring people together, passion for sport, and unwavering dedication to the Maritimes have earned him recognition as a leader within the sport’s entertainment industry.

“I’m deeply honoured to serve as Commissioner for the Maritime Junior Hockey League,” says Moore. “I strongly believe that the MHL is a leader within the Canadian Junior Hockey League due to our twelve unique franchises and thousands of proud fans ranging across all corners of the Maritimes. The MHL offers the best opportunity for our talented junior-aged hockey players to stay close to home while prioritizing their education and aspiring to achieve their goals in hockey and in life. My goal is to foster collaborative leadership amongst the Board of Governors and continue building on the league’s proud tradition while promoting our authentic Maritime hockey culture throughout Canada and the world.”

Moore officially begins serving the role as MHL Commissioner on April 22nd, 2025.
