Luke MacMillan, Truro Bearcats (MHL) named CJHL Academic Player of the Year

CALGARY, Alta. Hockey Canada, in conjunction with Canadian Junior Hockey League, has announced Luke MacMillan of the Truro Bearcats (MHL) has been its Academic Player of the Year for the 2018-19 season.

With the honour comes a $5,000 scholarship towards MacMillan’s post-secondary education at the Canadian university or college.

An honour student throughout high school, the 20-year-old Brookfield, N.S., product is wrapping up his second year in the Engineering Program at the Dalhousie University Agricultural Campus in Bible Hill, N.S., with a cumulative grade point average above 4.0 for his three terms.

MacMillan will now continue towards his degree at Dalhousie’s Sexton Campus in Halifax with an eye on majoring in mechanical or civil engineering.

Among his other academic honours includes Dean’s List, Honours with Distinction, Valedictorian, Queen Elizabeth II Medal, Ron O’Flaherty Scholar-Athlete Award, Lieutenant Governor Award, and a Canada-Wide Science Fair Silver Medal.

NICKERSON FAMILY AWARDS

Hockey Canada also announced that two other CJHL players have been named recipients of Nickerson Family Award Scholastic Scholarships.

Hunter Foreshew of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners (NOJHL) will be presented with a $1,000 scholarship to assist in his post-secondary education while Stratton Pickett of the Red Lake Miners (SIJHL) will receive a $500 scholarship.
