SOCHI, Russia — Team AJHL fell short in the final minutes of Friday’s game to open the 2019 Junior Club World Cup in Sochi, Russia with a 3-2 loss against Loko Yaroslavl.
Carter Savoie (Sherwood Park Crusaders) opened the scoring against the 2018 JCWC Champions just 2:57 into the game, followed up quickly by Jeremy Gervais (Bonnyville Pontiacs) to take an early 2-0 lead.
With just six seconds left in the second period, Loko would score to close the period at 2-1, with the first of three unanswered goals.
Team AJHL will play its second game of the tournament on Sunday, August 25th against MODO from Örnsköldsvik, Sweden at 3:00PM (6:00AM MDT).
