“We just knew the first game [against Sudbury] wasn’t really our game. It wasn’t the pace we normally play at, and we just felt a little bit off that night. We wanted to play our team style tonight, push the pace and skate. I think we got tired as the game went on and ran out of gas in the third period, so we have to manage that, but I liked our energy and enthusiasm. They actually play a similar style to us; they’re pretty defensive, have good structure, are well-coached, and they keep the goals against down and have a good goalie. We knew it was kind of like playing ourselves; we watched some video and knew what to expect, but I thought it was a good even game.”

“That’s hockey, right? You play your games and last night I thought we were outstanding, tonight I thought it was the worst hockey game we’ve played in a long time. There was no flow in the game, just penalty after penalty and it seemed like it wasn’t a hockey game. They score on the first shift of the hockey game, it’s hard to recover from that, then we take a penalty and it just snowballed from there.”

“Getting a comfortable lead like that with one goal early in the game really helps; that’s the confidence our guys had and it feels good. Summerside is a good team, they play hard and fast. We knew they would be aggressive and on top of us quickly, so to get the 1-0 lead was a bit of deflation for them and a little bit of excitement for us. We still took too many penalties, some undisciplined ones and that put our penalty kill in a bad spot. We blocked a lot of shots which is great, but on the downside the potential to get hurt and we have to sharpen up our discipline moving forward.”

« Nous savions que notre premier match [contre Sudbury] n’était pas vraiment à notre image. Ce n’était pas le rythme auquel nous jouons normalement, et nous nous sentions un peu à côté de nos patins ce soir-là. Nous voulions jouer selon notre style ce soir, dicter le rythme et patiner. Je pense que nous nous sommes fatigués à mesure que le match avançait et que nous avons manqué de jus en troisième période, donc il faudra gérer ça, mais j’ai aimé notre énergie et notre enthousiasme. Ils jouent en fait un style semblable au nôtre. Ils sont assez défensifs, ont une bonne structure, sont bien dirigés, accordent peu de buts et ont un bon gardien. Nous savions que ce serait un peu comme jouer contre nous-mêmes. Nous avions regardé un peu de vidéo et nous savions à quoi nous attendre, mais je pense que c’était un bon match équilibré. »

« C’est ça, le hockey, n’est-ce pas? Les matchs se succèdent. Hier soir, je trouvais que nous avions été exceptionnels, et ce soir, j’ai trouvé que c’était notre pire match depuis longtemps. Il n’y avait aucun rythme dans la rencontre, seulement punition après punition, et on aurait dit que ce n’était pas vraiment un match de hockey. Quand l’adversaire marque dès le début du match, c’est difficile de s’en remettre, puis nous avons écopé d’une punition et tout s’est enchaîné à partir de là. »

« Prendre une avance confortable comme ça avec un but tôt dans le match, ça aide beaucoup. C’est ce qui a donné confiance à nos gars, et ça fait du bien. Summerside est une bonne équipe, qui joue avec intensité et vitesse. Nous savions qu’ils seraient combatifs et qu’ils nous mettraient rapidement de la pression, alors prendre les devants 1-0 a été un peu démoralisant pour eux et un peu stimulant pour nous. Nous avons quand même pris trop de punitions, dont certaines par indiscipline, et ça a placé notre désavantage numérique dans une mauvaise position. Nous avons bloqué beaucoup de tirs, ce qui est excellent, mais l’inconvénient, c’est le risque de blessure. Il faudra resserrer notre discipline pour la suite. »
