Friday, December 10, 2010

The Huntsville Otters, in conjunction with the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), today unveiled and launched the website for the 2011 Dudley-Hewitt Cup, taking place from April 19-23 at the Canada Summit Centre in beautiful Huntsville, Ontario.

The Dudley-Hewitt Cup is a four-team tournament that serves as Hockey Canada's Central Canadian Junior 'A' Championship with the winner going on to play at the RBC Cup National Junior 'A' Championship (being played from April 30-May 8 in Camrose, Alberta). The champion from each of the OJHL, the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) and the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL) take part in a round-robin tournament, along with the host club, the Huntsville Otters.

The 1st place club after the round-robin will receive an automatic bye to the championship game, while the 2nd and 3rd place clubs will face-off in a semi-final on April 22 at 7:30pm. The winner of the semi-final will then face the 1st place finisher in the championship game on April 23 at 4:30pm local time to determine the champion of the 2011 Dudley-Hewitt Cup.

The Dudley-Hewitt Cup is named after George Dudley and W.A. Hewitt, two pioneers of amateur hockey in Ontario and Hockey Hall of Fame Honoured Members. It was first awarded following the creation of the Junior 'A' category in 1970-71 to the Detroit Jr. Red Wings of the Southern Ontario Junior 'A' Hockey League. The Oakville Blades are the defending champions and OJHL clubs have won the prestigious title 21 times since its inception, including 11 of the last 15 years.
